Proclaiming that Jesus is Lord is the entry point to the Christian faith. It is the “trigger” that brings regeneration to the human spirit and that marks the transition from sinner to saint.
The Lordship of Christ is The Gospel, the Good News message that mankind needs to hear. We cannot reduce Jesus to a kind of cosmic guru or best buddy in the sky, a heavenly personal development teacher. Jesus is not sent to improve us; He is sent to be our Lord and Master. This dominion over us is not to be feared or shunned. God gave Jesus absolute rule over all things FOR US (Ephesians 1:22,23).
The Good News is that Jesus is Lord. He reigns and rules on high. The noxious weed of futurism has poisoned many to see Jesus’ rule over all creation as some future hope rather than a present-day reality. The simple fact is that if Jesus is not Lord now, then how can He save us? And if He is not in charge of things, who is?
The biggest problem is that we treat the Lordship of Christ as a truth to know and not a truth to walk in. We pay lip service to Christ’s dominion yet treat it as peripheral. As believers our primary task should be to subdue all things under our Lord. This is the Prime Directive of the Christian life – to bring all things in subjection to Christ, that God may be all in all.
The revelation that is essential to be saved is that Jesus is Lord. This is what satan blinds the minds of people from knowing (2 Corinthians 4:3,4). If anybody has a revelation of Christ’s Lordship, the response is always the same – that person bows the knee and surrenders to the claims of Christ. It is how every Christian ever got saved. The revelation that Jesus is Lord and in control of the universe is what the masses of those who are not Christians are blind to. Sadly, some Christians have dimmed vision when it comes to this truth, also.
If saying that Jesus is Lord brings salvation and is the heart of the Gospel message, why don’t we use that more often? “Jesus is Lord” is a miracle message! It produces signs and wonders. It brings deliverance and salvation. It changes the atmosphere and subdues peoples and nations.
Say among the nations, “The LORD (Yahweh) reigns!
Indeed, the world is established; it shall not be moved;
He shall judge the peoples righteously.” PSALM 96:10 MEV
The message has not changed. Our God reigns. It is the default message of the Christian faith. In New Testament language we could say that Jesus is Lord because God’s reign is now expressed through His Son.
What we have to understand is that proclaiming Jesus’ Lordship and sovereignty is speaking reality. It is reality that sets us free. Reality is reality; that is, it is more solid than anything that opposes it. Truth is immovable, unshakeable and invincible. By speaking and preaching truth, we penetrate the darkness of deception and lies, breaking such things down and dispersing them.
The fundamental truth of the universe is that the One Who created it rules over it. Everything satan comes up with is designed to hide and obscure this truth. Yet we are not ignorant of his devices. All of existence has its beginning and end – its Alpha and Omega – in Christ. Through Him all things came into being. He is Lord, King and God. Accepting this is life; rejecting it is death.
God has established His Throne in the heavenly realms and His Kingdom rules over all. This is spiritual fact and reality. It is greater than anything that opposes it. As the Psalmist says, “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.” (Psalm 145:13 NKJV)
We are to let men know the glorious majesty of His Kingdom (Psalm 145:12). This means it is an absolute necessity that we preach the true Gospel message – that Jesus Christ is Lord.
To dismantle the kingdoms of darkness and penetrate the structures of obfuscation we are surrounded by. it is vital that we proclaim that most powerful of all truths:
Jesus is King and Lord over all created realms and creatures.
