For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. ISAIAH 9:6,7 NKJV
As I was reading this out at the Midnight Service in church tonight, I was reminded of the revelation given to that grand old prophet of God, John McPhee, and his faithful band – the revelation of the “King within the king” i.e. a shepherd king upon Britain’s royal throne indwelt by the King of Heaven, the Lord Jesus.
In this wonderful way i.e. through the indwelling Presence of Jesus Christ, monarchs should reign over the British people. This is the grand plan of God in this Christian era, particularly in the Kingdom Age. Our British Throne, of course, can be traced back to the original Davidic Monarchy and it is this dynastic seat which has been given in perpetuity to the virgin-born Child whose birth we celebrate at this season.
Until He sits on it corporally at His coming, He can and should sit on it by being the indwelling One within a British monarch; hence the need for us to sing the prayer that is our national anthem – God SAVE the King/Queen – and for us to obey the scriptural mandate to pray for our monarchy.
A king or queen upon Britain’s royal throne who is born from above and filled with the Holy Spirit is the vessel through which God has chosen to govern the nations. This is necessary for world peace. This is how the Throne of David is to function in the earth.
We can then fully understand the horror of having a dud king or queen, one who is not born again or spiritually attuned to the One upon whose Throne he/she sits. Sadly, we have had our share of such sovereigns in both biblical and post-biblical history.
It is vital to see the purpose of God in our British royalty and understand that our monarchs are anointed to bring Christ’s dominion to planet earth, both from a spiritual and natural perspective. Creating the illusion of rival powers in the offices of presidents or prelates is injurious to world peace and an affront to the God who has set His king upon His holy hill of Zion (see Psalm 2). Although undoubtedly Messianic, the primary application for this psalm is to the Davidic monarchy. Indeed, the ultimate rulership of the Messiah is predicated upon the success and authority of the Davidic Throne being an established and manifest reality in the earth.
The Christ Child came to rule. That He chooses His own path to rule which saw Him suffer the ignominy of a criminal’s execution as a substitutionary sacrifice rather than use His angelic army to wipe out Rome’s military juggernaut is the wisdom of God which intellectuals find foolish. People today still question why His authority and power is not exercised more overtly. This is why people – yes, even some spiritual folks – struggle with the “King within a king” concept i.e. that Christ would rule upon the British Throne through a human vessel upon that Throne. Well, we have to remember that every believer has kingly authority in Him.
God’s instrument of dominion is the Throne of David. Not the White House. Certainly not the Vatican or the UN Secretary-General’s office. Our responsibility is to pray that the incumbent monarch on that Throne is prayed for that he/she will be a shepherd of God’s people and a sold-out believer who will obey God and reign according to His revealed will.
You can pray nothing more of service to mankind this Christmas season than that God raise up a shepherd king upon the British Throne in whom the Christ Child has found a habitation.
Pray this prayer with me:-
Father, give us a godly, Davidic shepherd king upon our British Throne. Let him rule with justice and in the fear of the Lord. May he be gracious and kind to the poor and fatherless. Be a terror to his enemies and extend Your dominion through the Throne of David. Let this king be sold-out to You and a willing, clean vessel through which You will govern the nations and bring revival to this world. In JESUS’ Name, Amen.
